FAQ's
Q. The CybeReunion is browser-based chat--will Netscape work? If
so, do I need a minimum version, or a Java-enabled browser to
participate?
A. CybeREUNION uses software designed to integrate chat directly
into a web page, thereby enabling browser-based chat, and reaching
the broadest possible audience. Using a browser such as Netscape
Navigator or Internet Explorer allows the use of plug-ins designed
specifically for Netscape, or Active X control for Internet Explorer.
There is also a Java client for use with any Java-enabled browser,
and a straight HTML client that requires no plug-in or Java and
works with any table-enabled browser. Recommended minimum platforms are Netscape Navigator 3.01 or Internet
Explorer 3.0. Regardless of the plug-in or client you choose, you will be able
to communicate with all other visitors.

Q. I use IRC software regularly; will the reunion be accessible via
irc as well?
A. Yes. But by using IRC, not the plug-in or java client, you will
miss out on some of the many features of the server software.

Q. What's the difference between the various ways of connecting?
A. Simply stated, the difference is performance. The plug-ins, active-x
and Java provide smooth scrolling text in the chat window, similar
to what you see with most IRC clients. The HTML version is choppy,
as it requires that the entire page be refreshed occasionally.
When the page is refreshed, ALL text disappears momentarily, then
is rewritten. This makes it more difficult to keep up with the
conversation. On the other hand, HTML does allow access from multiple
platforms and services. If you have the choice, choose either
the plug-in or java. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH EITHER OF THESE
CHOOSE HTML.

Q. I'm on AOL/CompuServe. Will I be able to attend?
A. YOU are the reason we have chosen the browser-based chat format!
But you will need to check the compatibility of your browser,
and may need to upgrade. See the Ichat support pages for specifics
on AOL.

Q. I don't have internet access from home, but I do from work. Can
I attend from there?
A. That's more a question for your boss than for us = ) If you have
access to the internet via a browser at work, there is no physical
reason why you can't attend. If you are behind a firewall, you
may need to stick with the HTML client. But first - check it out
with management! Some firms pay hourly access fees, others limit
internet access to purely business use. You may need some help
configuring the system. Check it out beforehand.
Q. I'm excited to hear about this, and have a request. I think it
would be a great idea to have people fill out their home address
and phone numbers when they register. It allows people like me
to locate lost friends.
A. Agreed! When you get to the CybeReunion, you'll have an opportunity
to fill out a profile and can include much of that information;
but that is only available while you are online. If a Bulletin
Board is part of your event, it will allow you to leave this information
where others can find it anytime. In addition to allowing you
to post your address and phone number, it will allow posting of
links to business and personal web sites, and you can also leave
notes telling people when you will be back online!
Q. Can I get a list of e-mail addresses for the participants?
A. CybeREUNION does not publish (or resell) address lists. (See CybeREUNION's Privacy Statement) The bulletin board will allow exchange of addresses for those
who choose to do so however. You might also contact your college
or other event-sponsoring body.
Q. I'd like to invite someone, but don't know their e-mail address.
Can you help?
A. In addition to contacting Knox as mentioned in the answer above,
the internet offers dozens of search engines to locate people's
e-mail addresses. Below are links to some of them.

Q. Can I get a transcript of last year's event?
A. CybeREUNION does not publish transcripts. A single transcript
is delivered to the college or sponsoring-body electronically
for their records. (See also CybeREUNION's Participation Agreement.)
Q. I'm new to chat and don't want to find out at the CybeReunion
that I don't know what I'm doing. Any suggestions?
A. Certainly. Visit the ichat Homepage at http://www.ichat.com, and pick up a plug-in for your browser. Then point your browser
at any of the sites posted below for a great intro!

Q. I have other questions about the event. Who should I contact?
A. You can start by contacting us. If your question is best heandled by others we will refer you
on!
